| Second Thailand’s National Health Assembly (NHA) will be held in Bangkok during
16-18 December 2009 under the Theme 'Opportunities and Challenges in Complex Crises'. The NHA Organizing Committee 2009 had invited
constituencies to propose their issues of interest to the Committee before 15
May 2009. The 115 issues from 57 proposed papers were considered by the Committee, finally 11 issues have been approved to be included in the agenda items of NHA2009 as follows: 1) Family and youths 2) Elderly 3) Emerging infectious diseases 4) Waste management 5) Primary health care in health service system 6) Traditional knowledge, Thai and alternative medicines/ medical treatments 7) Consumer protection on medicines and other health products 8) Nutrition and health promotion 9) Prevention of road accidents 10) Sustainable development plan in southern area 11) Control of alcohol consumption - National strategic plan The National Health Assembly Organizing Committee (NHAOC) also provides the opportunity for networks interested in organizing academic meetings as part of the 2009 national health assembly, by arranging meeting rooms for presentation and discussion of individual topics, each topic to last about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Such academic meetings will be held during the lunch break and in the evening, during which no sessions devoted to approval of recommendations and resolutions, and no meetings to discuss the items in the agendas are held. For this year, the followings topics have been approved by the NHAOC to be presented in the technical session: 1) Youths and Families: Getting ready for crisis after crisis 2) Multiple Crises - Unstable Health System: What has Thailand learned from H1N1 Influenza A 2009? 3) Health Communication in Crisis 4) Local Government Organizations: Alleviation of National Health Crises by Way of Communities 5) Politics of and Solutions to the National Health Crises...
