Loving Kindness Volunteers: Giving love to society
Many small pebbles put together can create a great mountain, many small steps can reach a great distance spanning thousands of kilometers, and many small actions performed with loving kindness can create a wonderful world full of smiles. Small deeds of kindness can result in great things.Small but valuable deeds are an important part of giving in the “Loving Kindness Volunteer Activity”, a project that mobilizes volunteers who have hearts full of love and are willing to spread love among children in schools at various communities in Bangkok. The project aims to open the hearts of children to receive love and attention from those around them. The project is for children who reside in slums, construction communities, and railroad communities. In most cases, they come from incomplete families and many are abused. As a result, the minds of these children are weakened and closed. The project aims to add what is missing. Even small and insignificant things have great value in creating smiles and laughter and are absorbed deep into their hearts. Activities by the “Loving Kindness Volunteers” are organized by the Give2All project under the Thai Fund Foundation which supports “giving” in all forms. This is not limited to money or material goods but may be simple actions that everyone can do in their daily lives, for example showing kindness, sharing, giving to one another, or even smiles and laughter. “Giving” should be at the foundation of Thai society. Other activities are aimed at promoting good examples of giving and motivate people to participate in constructive activities valuable to society. “Giving to Society” is promoted in various forms to encourage members of society to mutually support one another. These activities are gaining momentum and will show sustainable long-term results. The project is ever willing to support social activities and connect with other various organizations. “Giving to Society” has become a wide network and even influences laws and policies. Additionally, it increasingly plays a role in developing new mechanisms and creating a system to motivate people who want to share and perform good deeds together. “Giving to Society” is promoted in many ways which are easy to perform i.e. volunteering, offering physical and moral support, providing knowledge, participating in social activities, organizing volunteer camps, contributing one baht per day, donating blood, and appreciating the value of disabled persons, accepting disabled persons to work in appropriate positions, becoming foster parents, giving advice to those with problems, helping the sick, imparting artwork for public benefit, advocating no drunk driving, and participating in no-smoking campaigns, etc. Apart from the “Giving to Society” project, the Thai Fund Foundation organizes various activities to create social development opportunities i.e. instilling virtues among members of society, human efficiency development, promoting activities of volunteer organizations, etc. Information technology is also utilized to leverage communication and development in these projects through websites such as www.thaingo.com and www.give2all.com. Social activities conducted by various organizations are promoted in concrete form that people in society can experience and feel. Good attitudes are cultivated among volunteers who learn how to give and share in many different forms. The project also reminds people that everyone is capable of performing small acts of kindness which are like streams that add to a great river which can fill the hearts of both giver and receiver since everyone can be both a giver and receiver at the same time. |
