The 2nd Asian International Conference on Humanized Health Care was successfully convened in Nanning, China aiming to addressing the role of humanized health care in the changing world and exchanging knowledge and experience in order to improve health care system.
Nowadays, people are facing with the changing world caused by several factors such as globalization, unbalanced development and climate change. These challenges affect the health of people across the world. Hence, humanized approach becomes an important role in the health care system. The cooperation among hospital, university, research institute, state agency and community in seeking creative models to improve the health care system is necessary.
Given the fact that, China has already entered to an ageing society. The senior citizen aged 65 up will reach 31% by 2050. Associate Professor Wu Bin, the Dean of the Nursing Faculty of Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University presented the new model of elderly care in China, Congyang Elderly Residential Apartment (CYERA). It provides 5 types of treatment - regimen, medical treatment, convalescence, rehabilitation and terminal care - to the elderly. CYERA is run by the Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University with the support of the Bureau of Civil Affairs of Guangxi. It is considered as a creative elderly care model because it has is run privately , but investigated by the society.
Dr. Amphon Jindawatthana, the Secretary General of National Health Commission (NHC) of Thailand, looked beyond humanized health care to improve the health of the people. He called for a healthy society in which people are live together in a harmonious and peaceful manner. Materialism and consumerism stimulate the greed of people leading to a discontented society. The National Health Commission Office (NHCO) of Thailand is driving the strategy on Humanized Thailand with the principle that good deed can be seeded and passed on to other communities and to the next generation. NHCO promotes networking among groups/networks which contribute good things to the society. Their good stories are collected and shared among the expanding network in order to honor the good persons and encourage these practices. Moreover, NHCO links all kinds of media to broadcast the good stories nationwide. The Secretary General of NHC, Thailand showed a case of humanized cancer treatment at Arokayasaan Centre. The treatment at Arokayasarn aims not only to cure or to reduce the symptoms of cancer, but also to help patients deal with their natural need to understand, and be reconciled to, their illness. This centre was established following the experiences of the monk, Pra Bpaponpat, who suffered from sinus cancer in 1996. Using his own natural treatment and therapy methods he successfully cured himself, Arakayasaan was first opened to patients in 2004 and is still open today. It is located at Khamphamong Temple, Sakon Nakhon Provice.
The Asian International Conference on Humanized Health Care is held every two years. The 1st AIC HHC was hosted by Faculty of Nursing, Khon Kaen University, Thailand in 2007. This is followed by the 2nd AIC HHC 2009 in China from 12 – 13 October 2009. The hosting organization is Faculty of Nursing, Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University in cooperation with many partners including the National Health Commission of Thailand. The 3rd AIC HHC is planning to be organized in 2011 expecting in Vietnam.
